Happy Thanksgiving!

Do not forget to read and annotate chapters 1 & 2 of Lord of the Flies.  Your annotations should have two focal points: author's craft & plot elements (setting, characterization, conflicts).  

Furthermore, you should be able to answer the following questions after reading:

1. How did the boys arrive on the island?
2. How did Piggy get his name?
3. What are the main personality and physical traits of the following characters:

• Ralph
• Piggy
• Samn'Eric
• Jack

     4. What is the purpose of the shell?  What does it symbolize?

     5. Research the allusions to:

• Treasure Island
• Swallows and Amazons
• Coral Island

What image do these references evoke?  Why do you think Golding would choose them?
